Capitol, Partners Hold Outreach Program, Serve 700 Island Folks in Bantayan
Tropical depression Domeng failed to dampen the spirit of the Cebu Provincial Government team and other government agencies to hold an outreach program for residents of Mambacayao and its neighboring islets in the municipality of Bantayan, Bantayan Island, north Cebu.
The team composed of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro), Provincial Health Office (PHO) and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed to Bantayan town to provide medical and dental services, distribute school supplies, and conduct an information drive on the importance of protecting the environment.
The activity, which was held last June 6, was organized in coordination with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 7, Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police.
At least 500 residents availed themselves of the free medical and dental services and received free medicines. The elderly also received eyeglasses, crutches and canes, as well as hygiene kits.
A total of 200 children were also delighted to receive school supplies courtesy of the Sand and Gravel Haulers Association through its president, Anabel Repe.
Information and education materials about coastal laws and saving the ocean were also distributed during the said activity.
Lawyer Rhea Yray, Penro focal person, said that the team chose Mambacayao as it is the intention of the Province to reach out to the grassroots communities of the province, provide them with various services and promote one of the key development agenda of Gov. Hilario P. Davide III, which is environmental protection and conservation.
