Capitol Opens New Hospital Building in Malabuyoc
Relentless in its pursuit of providing quality health services for the countryside, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) has made sure to open another new edifice for a Provincial Government-run district hospital before the year ends.
Last Tuesday, Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale graced the inauguration of the P70-million building of the Mariano Jesus Cuenco Memorial District Hospital in Malabuyoc town, southwest Cebu.
“The medical facility in this area, which is far from the city, really needs to be improved. I hope that with this new building, better health services could be provided to the people, especially the poor patients,” Davide said.
It was the third new edifice that PHO and DOH 7 opened this year as part of Capitol’s efforts to ensure Cebuanos residing far away from big hospitals in Cebu City could have access to quality health services.
The two-story building can accommodate 50 patients and is beefed up with new medical equipment for diagnostic testing. It also has facilities for patients of tuberculosis and animal bite.
Last September, PHO opened a new emergency building of the district hospital in Pinamungajan town. This was followed by the inauguration of the 50-bed edifice of the provincial hospital in Balamban last October.
Joining Davide and Magpale in the ceremony were PHO head Dr. Rene Catan, chiefs of hospitals from other districts and municipal officials of Malabuyoc and Samboan.
Earlier, Catan said upgrading the facilities of the 12 district and four provincial hospitals is the priority of the province, with health and social services topping the list of Davide’s six-key development agenda.
For 2018, the Capitol allocated P1.4 billion for the operation and improvement of the province-run hospitals, as well as the expansion of PHO’s health-related services and programs.
Also on Tuesday, the top Capitol officials led the distribution of food packs to 2,500 senior citizens during the Halad kang Lolo ug Lola in Samboan.
“The administration of Gov. Junjun makes sure that all sectors, such as the senior citizens, youth, persons with disabilities, farmers, fishermen and women have a program of their own,” Magpale said in Cebuano.
Aside from food packs, the municipal government of Samboan, led by Emerito “Tito” Calderon, also handed out cash incentives to the senior citizens.
