Capitol Jumpstarts Province-Wide Distribution of School Materials
Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III led the ceremonial kick-off as Capitol sets this year’s province-wide distribution of school supplies in Tayud Elementary School in Consolacion, Cebu on Monday, June 5, in time for the nationwide opening of public elementary and high schools.
Davide, together with second district board member Christopher Baricuatro, handed over 300 sets of basic school materials to the Department of Education (DepEd) Division Superintendent Rhea Mar Angtud.
Tayud Elementary School Head Fe Baladjay said they will set the individual distribution of the school items that mostly contain pencil, ruler, writing pad, crayon, notebook and plastic envelope.
Baladjay said the first recipients of the initial tranche of the supplies given by the Province are the kindergarten pupils.
“First time in my 17 years as school head, we have a governor in our school opening program,” said Baladjay.
Baladjay told the more than 2,000 pupils from pre-school to Grade 6 that the distribution of school supplies will be done in their respective classrooms.
Baricuatro, also the chairman of the Cebu Provincial School Board (PSB), said more pupils will soon get school materials when the remaining set arrives anytime this week.
He said the distribution is part of its support to Davide’s education agenda.
“The 300 sets of school supply were brought to the school for ceremonial distribution as the remaining items will be delivered anytime this week,” said Baricuatro.
Last February, Baricuatro said school bags will also be apportioned to pupils from kindergarten up to grade 6 in all public schools in all Cebu province.
With PSB having at least P19 million in budget for school supplies and P4.4 million for school bags, Baricuatro said they are targeting over 474,000 pupils to receive the materials.
Asked as to the schedule of the next round of distribution, Baricuatro explained that they will have to wait as schools close the enrollment.
He explained that they need to have a fixed number of students per school to have an exact quantity of supplies to be distributed.
Tayud Elementary School Guidance counselor Aurora Lacierda said that last year, the school hosted 2, 920 pupils from Kinder to Grade 6, adding that as of June 5, their population already reached 3000 while their enrollment is still open.
Moreover, also present during the distribution were Tayud barangay Captain Josephina Jalang and property custodian Julian Cuyos.
