Capitol Gives Cash Incentives to Batang Pinoy Winners

Cebu Gov Hilario P. Davide III welcomed the returning Batang Pinoy athletes who represented Cebu in the national championship in Baguio last month.

“Congratulations to all of you, you made us so proud. Hopefully next year No. 1 na ang Cebu Province,” Davide told the more than 70 athletes who visited the Governor last Tuesday to show their winning medals.

In the same occasion, Davide announced that Capitol will give cash incentives to the Batang Pinoy athletes who earned medals.

Capitol will give P5,000 cash incentives to those who earned gold medals, P3,000 for silver and P2,000 for bronze medals.

In the same courtesy visit, Commissioner Mon Fernandez of the Philippine Sports Commission turned over P2 million worth of checks to Davide as Cebu’s prize for placing 5th in the Philippine National Games (PNG) held here in Cebu last May.

In the recent Batang Pinoy national championship, Cebu landed 6th in the over-all standing, where 143 of our athletes went to Baguio City to compete.

Cebu earned 23 gold medals from 17 athletes.

Highest gold medal earner is cyclist Nicole Marie del Rosario who earned four gold medals: three for cycling and a gold medal for duathlon. Jeana Mariel Cañete got three gold medals for cycling.
