The Cebu Provincial Government began its distribution of school supplies for school year 2018-2019 in Badian town, southwest Cebu, during the first day of classes last Monday, June 4.

At least 1,576 pupils from kindergarten to Grade 6 of the Badian Central School received school supplies, which include pencils, crayons, rulers, notepads, and envelopes.

The kindergarten and Grade 1 pupils got the better off in the distribution as they also received school bags aside from the regular items.

Seventh District Rep. Peter John Calderon and Provincial Board Members Christopher Baricuatro and Jerome Librando led the distribution.

Also present during the event were Mayor Carmencita Lumain and Vice Mayor Fructuso Caballero together with town councilors and Department of Education (DepEd) officials.

This year, the school board has set aside P38 million for the program, an increase of P15 million, from P23 million allocation in 2017 where around 332,151 students from all over province benefitted from the project.

Lumain thanked Capitol officials for extending support to the students, especially that the prices of basic commodities are now increasing.

“Dako gyud kini og tabang sa mga ginikanan sa pagmenus sa galastohan panahon sa ting-abli sa klase (This is a great help to the parents to ease on their budget for school opening),” Lumain said.

Baricuatro echoed Lumain’s observation and added that the program is a commitment of Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale to help ease the burden poor families have to face during the opening of classes.

“Tabang gyud na sa mga ginikanan. Nakahibalo gyud si governor ug vice governor nga lisod kaayo ang panahon karon kay nagsige og saka ang presyo sa palaliton (This is really a big help to the parents. The governor and the vice governor really know the predicament of the parents now that prices are going up) ,” Baricuatro said.

Aside from school supplies, Baricuatro, the chairperson of the committee on education, also announced the ongoing construction of school buildings not only in Badian but also in other parts of the province.

He also said that two mobile classrooms for each district will be distributed before the year ends.

Also present during the distribution were DepEd Supervisor Delia Alocillo and Evelyn Balang, education program supervisor for English.
