Capitol Distributes Education Essentials for OFW Kids
Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale led the launching of the “Basic Education Necessities Assistance (BENA)” to the distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFW) for the first district of Cebu Province.
“Kining makatampo ta og gamay ug hinaut nga kining among tabang makatandog sa inyong kasingkasing,” the vice governor told at least 50 former OFW who came for the event together with their children.
The launching was held last Friday, Nov. 16, at the Minglanilla Sports Complex inside the Minglanilla Central School compound.
BENA is one of the programs of the Cebu Provincial Government, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, which focuses on the delivery of social services.
The beneficiaries who attended the launch came all the way from the towns of Sibonga and San Fernando and the cities of Carcar, Naga, and Talisay.
During the launching, Magpale, together with the other Capitol officials, distributed assorted school supplies, knapsacks and umbrellas to the beneficiaries.
The PSWDO will also be distributing the same education essentials to the other districts of Cebu soon.
“Salamat kayo, wala ko mag expect niini,” said 34-year-old Nemuel Solon, a father of three, who received a bag of school supplies worth P1,500. Solon of Carcar City had worked in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He came back home on May 14, 2017.
Provincial Board Member Yolanda Daan and Dr. Viña Solomon, Minglanilla education consultant, also attended the event.
BENA program falls under the health and social services and education of the administration’s Six-Key Development Agenda.
The other four priorities are countryside development; environment protection; infrastructure, tourism and investment promotion; and law and order.
These development agenda are anchored on the Capitol’s mantra: “Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon.”
