CAMP: Contemporary Artists of Mindanao for Peace
CAMP, the Contemporary Artists of Mindanao for Peace, will present their artworks at the Qube Gallery with a travelling show that tackles the recent Mamasapano Clash. The exhibit is a special one-week show at Crossroads from April 14 to April 21.
The Mamasapano Clash was a police operation, Oplan Exodus, that took place on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao, between the Special Action Force (SAF) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) (allegedly joined by United States Army Special Forces), the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Originally a mission to serve arrest warrants for high-ranking terrorists, led to the deaths of 44 members of SAF, 18 from MILF, and 5 from the BIFF, several civilians, and the death of Zulkifli Abdhir.
Getulio Napeñas, the relieved SAF commander, estimates about 250 casualties from the combined MILF, BIFF, and private militias during the encounter. The operation caught the attention of many for the relatively high number of police officers killed. The clash has been dubbed as the biggest loss of government elite force in history.
The exhibition acts as a peace campaign, bringing award-winning artists from different areas in Mindanao to come together and deliver a message through art.
Reception will be on Tuesday at 6PM in Qube Gallery in Crossroads, Banilad.
Everyone is encouraged to come and support this cause.
