Camotes Gets Ready for ‘Ruby’
In anticipation of the coming typhoon Ruby (International name: Hagupit), town officials of Camotes Island called for coordination meetings today with their respective municipal disaster risk reduction and management offices to implement necessary preparations.
“Tanan heavy equipment amo nana andaman ug fuel (Fuel for all heavy equipment is being prepared already for quick mobilization),” said Poro Mayor Luciano Rama Jr.
No preemptive evacuation yet but people are getting ready and evacuation centers have already been identified, he added.
San Francisco Mayor Aly Arquillano said they would start pruning trees that pose danger to houses. Residents in danger zones will also be advised to be alert and prepared, he added.
However, Arquillano said evacuation announcements will depend upon the storm’s behavior.
“Kung kailangan gyud, a day or 2 before mag-evacuate gyud same sa gibuhat pag-Yolanda (If necessary, we’ll conduct evacuation a day or 2 before like what we did when typhoon Yolanda came),” he added.
In Tudela town, Mayor Erwin Yu and local disaster team prepared food packs and relief goods for the people as well as gasoline fuel for mobilization.
He also acknowledged the Cebu provincial disaster risk reduction and management office for its continuous updates to mayors.
He said these updates serve as their basis for their preparatory actions in town.
With a diameter of around 500 km and wind strength of about 150 kph, typhoon Ruby is said to be of the same strength and intensity with typhoon Yolanda.
According to PAGASA, Ruby is set to take Yolanda’s path when it hit Central Philippines November last year.
“Ang mga storm di gyud na nimo ika-tiaw tiaw so pangandaman gyud (Storms should not be treated lightly so we have to be really prepared), said Yu.
