Calayan Medical Group’s Martriarch Celebrates Birthday in Cebu Clinic

Calayan Medical Group’s matriarch, Dr. Josefina V. Calayan, celebrated her 83rd birthday in their clinic in Cebu last May 18.

She feels blessed and fortunate and she praised her family for having her family around. Most of her children who are doctors (Arminda, Bernardita, Criselda, Manuel and Maybel) were present during her birthday party in Cebu.

According to Dr. Bernardita Calayan, the matriarch played huge role in why now most of them are doctors.  Their parents were insistent that they pursue their medical careers was so that they could practice their profession as a family, which now they do.

“Actually, when my dad built the hospital in Lucena, his purpose was to practice there together. But he died in 2002 and then Lalen (her nephew) brought up this idea of forming this Calayan Medical Group (CMG). The CMG is family-owned by all real Calayans. That’s where the Calayan Medical Group really started from our father.” shared Dr. Bernardita Calayan during the media interview.

From a small women’s clinic in Lucena city in 1966 to a hospital, and another clinic in Cebu which will soon celebrate its first year anniversary Dr. Josefina V. Calayan has a lot to be grateful for. She and her children will continue to share their expertise with the Cebuanos.

Her message for Cebuanos who want to stay healthy, look young and have an age-defying skin?
“My word is to live a stress-free life. Just love everybody. That will make you young always.”  shares Dr. JV Calayan.
