‘Buhawi’ Strucks Brgy. Mambaling

A tornado (‘alimpolus’ in Cebuano) struck Sitio Viking and Naba in Barangay Alaska Mambaling Cebu City past 2 pm Tuesday, a day before Tropical Depression Domeng is said to arrive in Cebu City.

Barangay Mambaling is a coastal barangay in Cebu City South District.

As of this writing, twenty nine houses in the said coastal 2 barangays were reportedly swept away by what residents said a “strong” cyclone, destroying houses and other edifice on its way.

Initial reports said the tornado came from Brgy. Tisa Labangon and moved towards the said area reaching barangay Duljo Fatima.

Visayan Electric Company (Veco) and teams of Cebu City Risk Reduction is already in the area to help residents remove the debris and some roofing materials brought by the twister.

A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare cases, the base of a cumulus cloud.
