BSP Releases New Generation of Banknotes with Enhancements for Visually Impaired
The Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) launched a new generation of banknotes which includes new quality of life features for persons with disabilities such as the visually impaired.
BSP also added more security features and improved the aesthetics of the 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 peso bills.
According to BSP governor Benjamin Diokno, the new bill’s design takes into consideration the visually impaired, giving them an easier time identifying them.
“To further promote inclusivity and integrity in our currency, the BSP also took an opportunity to further improve our banknotes as part of global best practices and, at the same time, improve on its design and security features,” said BSP Governor Benjamin E. Diokno.
Meanwhile, the 20-peso bill BSP has been revamped from bill into a coin. BSP explains that the P20 NGC coin will replace the P20 bill.
The current 20-peso bill will still be in production until all raw materials for the currency are utilized.
BSP added that coins are more durable than banknotes, which in the long run, will help the country save money in terms of cost savings. (ASC)
