Cebu City Councilor Gerardo “Gerry” Carillo said he will be happy if the parents of the 16-year old John Niño Pugoy will pursue the filing of criminal charges against him for allegedly strucking the minor’s head during a trouble that erupted between two groups of minors outside a bar along Osmeña Boulevard last Sunday dawn.

“Aw kon mokiha g’yud sila, ako ‘sab na nga ikalipay kay para maprobar nako nga wala ko’y sala kay dili man tinuod nga ako ang mihapak og bato sa ulo sa batan-on,” the south district councilor said in a radio interview Thursday.

Until now the parents of the victim still has not decided to file a case for frustrated homicide or for serious physical injuries in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the law on child abuse against the city councilor.

The police will continue to investigate the case even if Carillo had already asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to handle the investigation.

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director Mariano Natuel said it is appropriate that they will turn over to the NBI the investigation of the case just because Carillo requested for it, unless if the minor’s family would be the one to ask for it.

Reports said that the trouble erupted between the group of Pugoy against another group of youngers who are residents of Lapulapu City, Carillo who was also there responded and there were three witnesses who alleged that the councilor struck the victim’s head with a stone.

The victim is still confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) on serious condition.
