Boracay Named As World’s Best Island for 2016
Boracay Island, Aklan — This resort island has been named as the best island in the world in the 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards of international magazine Condé Nast Traveler.
Boracay took over the top spot from another Philippine island, Palawan which ranked second this year.
Aside from Boracay and Palawan, Cebu also made it to the list and ranked fifth this year.
In 2015, Boracay ranked 15th on the same list.
The international magazine described Boracay “as close to a tropical idyll as you’ll find in Southeast Asia, with gentle coastlines and transporting sunsets.”
The magazine meanwhile attributed the White Beach “with powdery white sand and shallow azure water ideal for swimming and snorkeling” as Boracay’s main draw to attract tourists, making it as one of the country’s top tourist destinations.
In 2015, Boracay received a total of 1,560,106 tourists.
This year, the island is targeting to reach 1.6 million tourist arrivals. (PNA) JMC/AJP/KVB/LPT
