Bomb Joke Leaves Man Behind Bars
Cracking a joke about a bomb at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) ended with the arrest of a plane passenger.
Arnold Go, 42, was arrested Wednesday after making a joke about explosives while onboard a plane that was about to take off.
Col. Constantino Barot said Go was onboard Cebu Pacific Flight 35J223 bound for Butuan and expected to take off around 2:50 p.m. when he was asked by the flight attendant to place his hand carry bag in the overhead compartment.
Go reportedly replied that he can’t do it because he had explosives. After learning, the flight attendant informed the plane’s captain who later reported the incident to airport authorities. Go was immediately brought out of the plane. A bomb squad was called to check on his bag, but after inspection, authorities found no explosives.
There were reportedly 146 passengers who didn’t make it to their destinations because the airline company decided to cancel the flight.
The MCIAA corporate affairs said other operations in the airport were not affected.
Go is currently detained at the Lapu-Lapu detention center and will be charged with criminal mischief and making a hoax bomb claim.
