Bohol Town Police Chief Killed in Ambush
A chief of police in one of the towns in Bohol was killed in an ambush staged by unidentified suspects while he was on his way to the police station Saturday evening, a Philippine National Police (PNP) official said on Sunday.
In a text message sent to Philippines News Agency (PNA), Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor, spokesman for the Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), identified the victim as Police Chief Inspector Gorge Salceda Caña, 47, married, a resident of Balintawak, Talibon, Bohol and currently Chief of Ubay Police Station.
He said the incident occurred at around 7:10 p.m. along the road in Balintawak, Talibon Bohol.
Mayor said Caña was brought to hospital for treatment but was delcared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Initial investigation showed that the victim just came out from La Fortuna Chicken and Lechon Eatery in Barangay San Jose, Talibon, Bohol where he took his dinner and boarded his Isuzu Dmax pick-up on his way to the police station when the ambush occurred.
Investigators said upon reaching the remote area in Barangay Balintawak, Talibon Bohol, armed suspects onboard two black vehicles peppered him with bullets.
After the incident, the suspects fled towards unknown direction while the victim was rushed to Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician due to multiple gunshot wounds in his body.
Authorities are now conducting follow-up investigation on the incident. (PNA) CTB/CLTC
