Boat Sinks Off Basilan, 25 Rescued – Report
At least 25 boat crew were rescued after their vessel sank off Basilan early Thursday, report said.
A report from Mindanao news site, said the fishing boat sank after seawater seeped through a hole on its wooden hull.
It added that of the 25 crew, 16 were rescued by crew of passing motorized bancas, while nine were rescued by Coast Guard rescue teams.
Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao spokesman Lt. S.G. Jomark Angue said the boat sank 12:30 a.m. Thursday near Big Sangbay and Small Sangbay islands in Hadji Muhtamad in Basilan.
Reports also said initial information reaching the Coast Guard, he said the boat came from the Zamboanga Fish Port Complex in Barangay Sangali and was heading for Basilan.
