BMW i3 Gets Official Worldwide
BMW unveiled its first mass-production electric car, dubbed as the BMW i3. According to BMW, it is capable of accelerating from 0-60 miles/hour in a matter of 7 seconds, while a full charge of its battery would be able to give you a range approximately 160 km via conventional domestic power socket, BMW i Wallbox or public charging station.
BMW added that the zero-emission premium car offers customers totally new and groundbreaking ways to experience driving pleasure, sustainability and connectivity on city roads.
The passenger compartment is made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, and combines lightness, stability and safety with spaciousness.
The electric motor powering the BMW i3 generates a maximum output of 125kW and peak torque of 250Nm. Its power is set to the rear wheels via a single-speed transmission. The motor sources its energy from lithium-ion storage cells integrated into the car’s underfloor section.
The BMW i3 is also available with a range-extender engine, which maintains the charge of the lithium-ion battery at a constant level while on the move as soon as it dips below a specified value.
BMW i3 will be able to meet future emissions regulations in most regions, making it the ideal purchase, but one thing that needs to be worked on would be the range as well as revamping the existing infrastructure of a country to accommodate the presence of electric cars to make them easier to own and maintain.
