BIR Reminds Youtubers, Influencers to Pay Taxes
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) reminds social media influencers, YouTubers, and other content creators to pay their taxes.
BIR issued a memorandum on August 16 stating that social media influencers who are making money through online content, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Reddit, Snapchat, etc. to pay correct taxes or face punishment.
“The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has been receiving reports that certain social media influencers have not been paying their income taxes despite earning huge income from the different social media platforms. There are also reports that they are not registered with the BIR or are registered under different tax types or line of business but are also not declaring their earnings from social media platforms for tax purposes. Whatever may be the reasons, it is now the most opportune time to discuss the tax obligations of these social media influencers,” the memorandum reads.
Moreover, the BIR is also looking for ways to audit once they are registered.
The BIR is also making it easy for social media influencers to register through BIR’s online registration.
According to the memorandum, social media influencers are liable for Income Tax and Percentage or Value-Added Tax along with Business Tax. (ASC)
