BFAR 7’s ‘FishR’ Launched
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 7 launched its FishR, a national program for municipal fisherfolks to establish a comprehensive fishery information system.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama welcomed the delegates, mostly comprised of municipal mayors, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members and representatives from local government units in Region 7, and some partner agencies during its launching held at Crown Regency in Cebu City last August 22.
FishR is designed to enhance, fast-track and complete the municipal fisherfolk registration. It is necessary in designing relevant programs to assist the local government units in the development, conservation, and protection of fishery resources.
Rama, in his welcome address, called everyone to work as one LGU in Region 7. He also reminded the local officials to put their efforts together and wholeheartedly in making the region the best as it can be.
The region-wide launching was led by BFAR-7 director Andres Bojos, BFAR National Director Atty. Asis Perez, along with BFAR 2 Regional Director Jory Ayson, and Department of Agriculture 7 Regional Executive Director Angel Enriquez.
Representing Cebu Province and Gov. Hilario Davide III was Capt. Romeo Tapayan, with 4th District Representative Benhur Salimbangon, while Bohol Province was graced by its Executive Assistant Joel Molina.
The mayor also asked everyone to pray and help the victims of the recent tragedy involving a cargo and passenger vessel that collided in the Talisay sea. This also caused an oil spill which affects the coastline, marine life and livelihoods of fisherfolks in Cordova.
A pledge of commitment by the province and city highlighted the event followed by an open forum and press conference. (Gessa Gunhuran, PIO Staff)
