BFAR 7 Warns Public vs Seafood
The Bureau of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 7 on Tuesday warned the public to not consume seafood caught in areas where there massive oil spillage are found.
BFAR 7 Regional Director Andres Bojos said that although it is safe to eat seafood, but only if these were caught from outside the contaminated areas. Thus, he warned local fishers to stay away from the oil-contaminated seas to prevent catching seafood which may poison the consumers.
“Dili pa gyud luwas kaunon ang mga isda ug kinhason sulod sa lugar diin dunay mga kontaminasyon sa oil spill,” Bojos said. On early Tuesday, kilos of dead fishes, reportedly poisoned by the ship’s oil, were fished out from the contaminated area.
2Go’s MV St. Thomas Aquinas, after it was hit by MV Sulpicio Express 7 last Friday night, was leaking with oil reserves since it sank. Following this development, the Cebu province and local government units like Cordova had declared their entire jurisdictions under a state of calamity.
