Beneficiaries of DOLE’s Tupad Program in Asturias and Barili Receive Wages
In partnership with the Provincial Government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Visayas, some 78 beneficiaries who are under the Employment Emergency Program in the towns of Asturias and Barili received their wages on Tuesday, May 8.
Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, together with town and DOLE officials, spearheaded the distribution of salaries amounting to P507, 000.
Called Tulong Pang-hanapbuhay Para sa Ating mga Displaced Workers (TUPAD), the program aims to provide income to informal sectors like farmers, fishermen and construction workers, who lost their livelihoods or jobs due to calamities and retrenchments.
“Dili namo matukib ang among kalipay nga natagmtaman ang grasya,” said Haide Trinidad, one of the beneficiaries from Barangay Bolocboloc, Barili.
Davide commended the recipients for their selfless service to the community.
“Pahibaw-a lang kami kung unsa ang inyong gikinahanglan kay kutob sa among mahimo, ang inyong Provincial Government uban si Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale mo tabang gyud kaninyo,” Davide said.
Under the program, the beneficiaries are required to do community work, such as river cleanup and tree planting. They will render service to at least 10 to 30 days where they are paid a daily wage of P333.
Magpale, for her part, assured the beneficiaries of full support and encouraged them to avail also of the livelihood programs of the Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC).
“Tinguha nato ang empowerment sa atong manga kabus nga kaigsuonan ilabi na ang mga kababayenhan,” said Magpale, who is the chairperson of the PWC.
Maria Grace Diaz, provincial director of DOLE 7, thanked the Province for helping her office implement the program.
During the ceremony in Barili, the Capitol also turned over cook wares for making siomai and banana chips to a people’s organization of Barangay Nabunturan, a beneficiary of PWC’s livelihood project.
Also, the top Capitol officials led the ribbon-cutting rites of Barangay Bolocboloc’s P3.1 million road concreting project and a mini ambulance worth P250,000, funded by the Provincial Government.
Present during the event were town officials, including Vice Mayor Teresito Mariñas and Councilor Julie Flores.
