Belonging to God

“We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God[a] is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him:” 1 John 2:3-5

Obeying Hod is a reflection of your love for Him and your belief in Him. Since we are humans, we cannot obey God perfectly all of the time. God us looking for sincere motives–the ‘desire’ always to please and obey Him. King David committed adultery, had a man murdered, and lied, yet God called him a “man after my own heart” (Acts 13:220.) This was because David, more than perhaps any person who ever lived, desperately wanted to obey God because He loved God so much. When you have that desire, you know that you belong to Him.

“This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister,” 1 John 3:10
