Beat the Heat and Save Money: Smart Tips for a Hot Season
Summer is in and the heat of the sun is just blazing hot, accompanied by a looming El Niño — did I just say it’s hot, like very hot?
Amidst this sweltering heat, our electricity and water bills will also increase and melt our budget like ice cubes on a hot summer day.
While we fan ourselves, drink water, and find shade we also want to make sure our budget is also kept cool this season. Here are some trusty tips to keep your cool and your wallet chill:
1. Use Water Wisely
Water is so precious during the summer heat. Opt for shorter showers or use a “tabo” and pail to conserve water. Recycle water for other purposes. For instance, the water used for laundry can be repurposed to flush the toilet.
Additionally, fix any leaks promptly, as even small drips can add up to significant water wastage over time.
2. Become More Energy Efficiency
Your air conditioner becomes your best friend when the sun blazes outside. However, running it non-stop can lead to sky-high electricity bills. You can keep your home cool by using fans to circulate air, and closing curtains during the hottest parts of the day to block out sunlight can also help in reducing the temperature inside your home.
Additionally, investing in energy-efficient appliances will also help lower your electricity bill. Also, don’t forget to unplug unused electronics to prevent phantom energy drain.
3. Practice Mindful Consumption
Adopt a mindful approach to consumption. Whether it’s water, electricity, or even groceries, being aware of your usage habits can lead to significant savings over time. Plan meals to minimize food waste, turn off lights when leaving a room, and consider carpooling or using public transportation to reduce fuel consumption.
Doing these simple yet effective strategies can help you navigate through the hot season with ease while also keeping your finances in check. Stay cool, stay frugal, and enjoy the sunny days ahead. (ASC)
