Battle for Severodonetsk in Ukraine Rages On
“Fierce Street Fighting” rages on at war-torn Severodonetsk, which has become a vital point in Russia’s attempt to capture the entire eastern Donbas region of Ukraine.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a nightly video address on Monday that the Ukrainians are not giving up positions in the city.
“Our heroes do not give up positions in Severodonetsk. In the city, fierce street fighting continues,” Zelensky said in his nightly address.
Russia and Ukraine are engaged in heavy urban fighting in the industrial city as Severodonetsk has become the main objective of the Russians in the Donbas and while Zelenskyy added that Ukraine has the numbers advantage against Russia, however, he said that the situation is “difficult.”
The Ukrainian president also added that the Russians wanted to capture Zaporizhzhia City.
Moreover, according to Ukrainian officials, the situation in Severodonetsk is changing “every hour.”
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom announced that it will supply Ukraine with missile systems that can strike Russian targets up to a range of 80km.
The announcement has continuously irked Russia, with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, saying that Russia will push back Ukraine further as the West supplies Ukraine with longer-ranged weapons. (GFB)
