Bantayan Airport Upgrade Gets More Support
The Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) will receive more financial support for the upgrade of the Bantayan Airport.
The MCIAA requested P154-million from the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the needed improvements of the airport wherein the airport authority plans to upgrade the Bantayan Airport into a “commercial tourism airport” to accommodate more flights and operate 24/7.
Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go expressed his support for the airport’s upgrade.
“Ipinapahayag ko po ang aking buong suporta sa pagbibigay ng pondo upang i-develop ang Bantayan Airport sa Bantayan Island (I express my support in giving the needed fund for the airports upgrade),” Go said.
Go also said that the airport’s upgrade would help the tourism industry boom on the island.
“Malaki ang maitutulong nito upang mapaunlad pa lalo ang turismo sa lugar na makapagbibigay ng hanapbuhay sa ating mga kababayan doon (It would be a big help to further improve tourism on the island, this would also give livelihood to our fellowmen there,” Go said.
The Bantayan Airport upgrade includes widening of the runway from 24 meters to 30 meters and the construction of taxiway and apron areas of the airport. The said upgrade will help the airport comply with the safety standards and allowing it to operate for night-time flight operations and commercial aviation. (ASC)
