#Bangon SugBogo: A Treat to Heroes
Around 1,500 typhoon survivors from the City of Bogo and neighboring municipalities gathered last Saturday night, November 30 at the Don Celestino Martinez Sports Complex for the “#BangonSugBogo Everyone’s A Hero Concert.”
The event which is the fourth series of the benefit concerts organized under the Bangon SugBohol Movement was made special as it was celebrated in commemoration of the 150th birthday of the “Father of Philippine Revolution” – Andres Bonifacio.
Unlike the first three concerts, the #BangonSugBogo event is not a fundraising activity but an “upliftment concert” meant to provide entertainment to the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Northern Part of Cebu. In the same way, the concert is dedicated to all the volunteers, relief workers from various government and non-government organizations, musicians, businessmen and to everyone who helped for being modern heroes in their own way.
Close to a hundred Cebuano artists composed of the Cebu Creative Thespians Group, Cebu City Dancesport team, 10G Troupers, Junior Troubadours, father and son duo – Tony Ray and four-year old John Oliveros, Full Bar Band and Chocolate the “snakeman” performed for free to give cheers to the crowd. Rudy Aviles directed the concert while Josh Eballe of Islands Souvenirs and Rona Sato were the hosts.
Not only were the survivors provided with food for the soul through a night full of music and entertainment but they were also provided with a free dinner treat courtesy of Juan Lakwatsero. The 1,500 packed meals and water were from the donations of US Consul John Domingo, PEBA Trading and Manufacturing Corp. President Bill Mallory and Melanie Ng’s Premium Concepts. Snacks courtesy of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation were also distributed.
The #BangonSugBogo concert was made possible with the joint efforts of the Province of Cebu which provided the logistic support, transportation and meals for the artists and concert organizers, the City of Bogo led by Mayor Junie Martinez which provided the venue, lights and sounds for the concert and to the organizers and volunteers: Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry headed by President Lito Maderazo, Executive Director May Segura-Ybañez, Vice President for Membership Melanie Ng, Ng Khai Development Corporation President & CEO Wilson Ng, Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente Community Based, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Islands Souvenirs.
