Bacolod Softball Teams Slug Their Way to the World Series
Fresh from their Singapore 2018 Asia-Pacific Regional Softball Championship, both the Majors and Juniors softball teams are on for the 2018 Little League World Series in Oregon and Washington, respectively.
Both team members of the Negros First Little League paid a courtesy call to Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia to thank him of the city government’s financial support of PhP500,000 during their games in Singapore July 1.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) – Bacolod officer-in-charge Carolina Constantino and staff Annie Briones, who mainly processed the passports of the two teams joined the little leaguers during their meet with Leonardia.
The Major League players are from Education and Training Center School (ETCS) –I, aged 11 to 12 years old, while the Junior League players are from Domingo Lacson National High School aged 13 to 14 years old.
In the Majors category, the Bacolod team sealed their finals victory with a 20-0 drubbing of Singapore, a release from the Bacolod City Public Information Office said.
The team, coached by Lizviminda Jalandoni, will represent the Philippines in the Little League World Series on August 8 to 15 in Portland, Oregon where they also finished fifth last year.
The Juniors, mentored by Roselle Hulleza, beat Australia, 10-0, to again compete in the Little League World Series in Kirkland, Washington where they placed second last year.
Both the provincial and the city governments provided financial aids of PhP500,000 each for the teams.
