Ayala Malls Expands Cebu Footprint, Signals Confidence in Visayas Economy
Ayala Malls, the retail arm of Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI), has announced a landmark P12.7 billion investment in Cebu, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to the Visayas region and signaling strong confidence in the area’s economic momentum. With flagship Ayala Center Cebu leading the charge, this strategic expansion marks a bold new chapter for retail and lifestyle development in Central Visayas.
The reinvention of Ayala Malls in Cebu comes at a time of remarkable regional progress. Central Visayas posted a robust 7.3% GDP growth and welcomed 5.4 million tourists in the same year, clear indicators of a thriving consumer base and dynamic local economy. Ayala Land’s investment reflects its belief in Cebu’s potential as a lifestyle and business hub, and its vision to elevate everyday experiences for Cebuanos.
“For over three decades, Ayala Land has been dedicated to building communities where people don’t just live or work, but truly flourish,” said Paul Birkett, COO of Ayala Malls. “Our malls have always been more than just places to shop; they are vibrant social centers, deeply woven into the daily lives of Filipinos. This exciting reinvention of Ayala Malls marks a new chapter, one that elevates your shopping and lifestyle experience while ensuring we remain relevant, resilient, and profoundly connected to the communities we serve. We’re not just growing spaces; we’re growing with you.”
Ayala Center Cebu: A Landmark Reimagined
At the heart of this transformation is Ayala Center Cebu, a beloved landmark now undergoing a vibrant reinvention. The mall’s refreshed design and expanded offerings aim to mirror Cebu’s evolving lifestyle and cultural energy. New features include a reimagined food hall, upgraded cinemas, a new retail wing with global brands, and a lush outdoor park in the city center.
“Ayala Center Cebu is transforming into a fresher and more vibrant destination,” shared Jia Sadol, General Manager of Ayala Center Cebu. “We’re reimagining the mall to offer exciting new experiences while celebrating Cebuano heritage.”
The new Activity Center has already opened, setting the tone for what’s to come. With sustainability woven into every detail, the mall promises not just elevated experiences but a greener, more connected future for Cebu.
Building a Lifestyle Ecosystem
Ayala Malls’ Cebu expansion goes beyond Ayala Center Cebu. In 2019, the company launched Ayala Malls Central Bloc in Cebu IT Park, designed for the city’s dynamic young professionals. Central Bloc offers a seamless blend of retail and lifestyle options, catering to the fast-paced rhythm of urban life.
Looking ahead, Ayala Malls Gatewalk in Mandaue is set to open in Q4 2026. Envisioned as Cebu’s premier entertainment and dining hub, Gatewalk will feature interactive concepts, creative spaces, gaming zones, and a design-forward food hall that celebrates both local flavors and national culinary innovation.
Together, these three destinations, Ayala Center Cebu, Central Bloc, and Gatewalk, form a comprehensive retail network that reflects Ayala Malls’ deep commitment to Cebu’s growth and vibrancy.
“Our continued investment in Cebu reflects a deep and lasting commitment, not just to growth, but to leadership,” Birkett emphasized. “Ayala Malls has long been part of the city’s lifestyle fabric, and we remain focused on setting the standard for what a lifestyle destination can be in Cebu.”
