AVRC II Celebrates 43rd Anniversary; Encourages Families to Support Their PWD Family Member
Families of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) joined in the recently concluded founding anniversary of the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC II). These PWDs who are active trainees of AVRC II were overjoyed with their family’s presence.
During the family forum spearheaded by Ms. Eutilla Tahanlangit, AVRC II center head, shared AVRC’s history and its objectives to the participating families.
“This center aims to develop the PWDs capacity through a comprehensive vocational rehabilitation program which will enable them to acquire practical skills for eventual employment, that is why we provide various courses ranging from Massage Therapy, Electronic Motor Repair, Computer Electronics, Basic Sewing, Furniture and Cabinet Making, Commercial Cooking and Cosmetology,” said Tahanlangit.
“Here in AVRC, we also teach your children or relatives important life skills like proper hygiene, time management, socialization and even Alternative Learning System (ALS) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd),” Tahanlangit underscored.
She further emphasized that the family support is also important in the rehabilitation of PWDs.
“Bisitahi, tawagan o pangamustahan sad ninyu sila diri aron madasig sila ug mahimong malampuson ilang pag-training (Check on them here or call them, so that they will be encouraged and successfully finished their training),” she added.
Strong family support is integral in the PWDs holistic development.
Partners and stakeholders who have contributed to the success of AVRC II were also present during the founding anniversary program like the Tzu Chi Foundation, Cebu Centennial Lions Club, Hospicio de San Jose Barili and Department of Labor and Employment Region 7 (DOLE-7).
As a non-residential institution of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), AVRC II has been at the forefront of providing human resource development to PWDs in the Visayas region through various skills enhancement program.
