The Philippine government is just right on its strict implementation of “Ebola virus” monitoring, said Department of Health (DOH)7 Medical Specialist III Dr. Joanri Riveral on Thursday.

Riveral said this (Ebola virus) imported “killer disease” is really dangerous and endangering Filipino lives if “we treat it with negligence.”

Ebola virus, which now claimed over 4,000 lives in West Africa, emanates from Fruit Bats, according to Riveral.

Riveral said the West African people are fond of manually butchering and processing Fruit Bats then sun-dried it, and included it in their daily food menus.

He said fruits eaten by Fruit bats are also eaten by monkeys which at the same time also butchered by the West African people then displayed its carcasses in the market, and considered as one of their special food menus.

Since 1976 up to now, the Ebola virus remains there in Ebola area, while in the other parts of West Africa such as Sudan, Sierra Lionne, and other places this kind of virus have also penetrated on and off there, Riveral said.

The worst, Riveral added is “until now nobody has developed a right medicine to cure this kind of virus”, he said.

The Filipino quarantine authorities in the airport and even in the seaport are strictly monitoring all suspicious ship and airplane passengers from foreign countries.

“This is the right thing to do for us to be safe here”, Riveral added. He also revealed the following symptoms in a patient with Ebola virus such as high fever, severe head ache, vomiting, diarrhea, and then just for a few days since its attacked, the patient dies.

The airport and sea port authorities are now on their 24-hour daily monitoring all foreign arrivals for proper health screening and examinations, getting their biographies and histories, and all pertinent information which are necessary for the health authorities to know in case they are positive to Ebola virus symptoms.
