Automotive Sales in PH Decline in August

Sales from the auto industry have registered a downfall due to stricter quarantine restrictions imposed continuously this year.

Reports from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) Friday show a decline of 11.5 percent year-on-year, and a fall by 26.3 percent month-on-month during August 2021.

Units sold on August 2021 was lower by 2059 compared to August of 2020 as both industry groups report a combined sales of 15,847 units on August 2021 while sales from August 2020 was at 17,906 units.

Units sold last July 2021 was at 21,498 units.

CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez attributed the lower sales figures to the stricter quarantine measures that had to be imposed due to rising COVID-19 cases in the country.

The automotive industry is aiming for a 20.9 percent increase in sales this year compared to sales figures from 2020. (GFB)
