Aug. 6 a Non-working Holiday in Cebu as Province Marks 446th Founding Day

Cebuanos will mark the 446th founding anniversary of the province of Cebu with a series of activities and a non-working holiday on Aug. 6, Thursday.

Republic Act No. 7698 declared Aug. 6 of every year as a special non-working holiday throughout Cebu, including the Cebu City to mark the the province’s charter anniversary.

But Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III will miss the celebration because he is on official trip in Japan from July 30 to Aug. 10.

Davide was invited by Toyo University’s Asian Public-Private Partnership Institute to participate in the second international public-private partnership forum.

Acting Cebu Governor Agnes Magpale Monday morning led the opening of the month-long celebration, which kicked off with the launching of an Agri-Aqua Fair at the Cebu Capitol grounds.

Maria Theresa Abella, fair coordinator, said at least 510 farmers and local agriculture officials attended the festivities, which will run until Aug. 8.

The Cebu Capitol has allocated some PHP342,000 for the fair.

The provincial government has declared Aug. 12 as a Farmers’ Day, aimed at recognizing the farmers for helping the government in the implementation of its various programs down to the household level.

On that day, the province will recognize 10 outstanding farmers who will each receive a plaque of recognition and PHP5,000 cash prize.
