At Least 140 Injured in Brazil as Commuter Trains Collide

Moscow (PNA/Sputnik) -– At least 140 people were injured when two commuter trains collided in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro state, according to the Globo.com news website. The accident took place at approximately 8:20 p.m. (22:20 GMT).

One of the trains had stopped at a station and was rammed from behind by another on the same track on Monday, the local media quotes Rio state Transportation chief Carlos Osorio as saying.

No fatalities and serious injuries have been reported, as the train was moving at a slow pace.

The injured have been taken to the four major health facilities.

The accident took place in the town of Mesquita, outside Rio de Janeiro.

The Agetransp-Agencia regulatory agency will carry out the investigation into the accident. (PNA/Sputnik) FFC/SSC
