At Least 1 Million Grade 11 Students Already Enrolled — Luistro
With only a few days left before the school opening, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Armin Luistro on Thursday said there are at least 1 million Grade 11 students already enrolled in public and private secondary schools nationwide.
Luistro dispelled concerns over the low number of Grade 11 enrollees for school year 2016-2017, data of which are merely based on the submission of enrollment lists by schools to the DepEd national server.
So far, only half of the more than 11,000 public and private schools offering Senior High School (SHS) have submitted their enrollment lists which account for some 432,000 students, he noted.
“Between now and next week, the schools now submit their enrollment lists, both public and private to our national server. Our national server currently has around half of the schools,” Luistro told reporters after the Xepto Learning Systems launch in Taguig City.
“The enrollment is not low. The submission (of enrollment lists) comes in trickles because this is the first time, I don’t think we have ever done it and I don’t think any country in the world has ever done an online enrollment system nationwide that is simultaneous,” he added.
Luistro said there are at least a million students in Grade 11 that are already enrolled in the schools which are not yet completely reflected in the national server.
“Enrollment in public schools never happened before. So when people say there is low enrollment, there is no comparable data historically that tells us that enrollment is low,” he argued.
DepEd expects some 1.5 million incoming students to enter Grade 11 starting June 13. (PNA) BNB/FMC/EDS
