Asia’s Windsurfing, Kitesurfing Events to Crowd Boracay’s Shore

Iloilo City (PNA) — Boracay is set to host another water sports activity, the Boracay International Funboard Cup which is scheduled to happen on January 26-31, 2015.

The Boracay International Funboard Cup, now on its 26th year, has evolved from a small town race into an international event and is currently considered as the most popular windsurfing and kitesurfing event in Asia. It is also the longest running and most successful yearly international sporting event in the Philippines.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI Regional Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas said “the Boracay International Funboard Cup has been given the Regional Director’s Award for the event contribution to the development and promotion of the tourism industry in Western Visayas which has brought about a significant impact and long term positive benefits to the industry. It is also one way of promoting Boracay as a premier windsurfing and kiteboarding destination in the country, Asia and the world”.

DOT VI believes that the funboard cup is an excellent vehicle to promote Philippine tourism through sports.

“Boracay is not just about the white sand and night life. The island can also be promoted as a primary tourist destination for health and wellness, ecotourism and extreme tourism, especially sports activities”, Director Catalbas stressed. (PNA) CTB/AJP/DOT6-PR/VLO
