Art Review: Trust Me I’m Crazy
Trust Me I’m Crazy is the art exhibit of German digital artist and Quiz Taxi TV star, Thomas Von Klettenberg. The exhibit runs from July 17, 2014 to August 8, 2014 at the Qube Gallery.
Thomas von Klettenberg art works are under the pop art movement and because of his medium of choice, the Iphone and Ipad drawing applications, his works can also be labeled as Digital Art.
He uses the Ipad and Iphone, his works give off a different feel, it is honest and spontaneous. Something that a normal painting may find hard to achieve because it would take time, proper planning and preparation to finish – which may lead to artworks losing some of its spontaneity.
Even though his works look simple, don’t be fooled by its simplicity. His artworks show a lot of symmetry and harmony of colors. His presentation, his forms are not aimless, there is still a method to his madness.
Then printing it on acrylic glass makes the work presentable as it shows that the artist is also conscious of his audience, it shows quality and professionalism. Between two or three paintings I can honestly say I like most of his works. There is a controlled spontaneity to it.
The Guard, 50 x 75 cm, Acrylic Print, Aluminum Dibond, 2014
“The Guard” is one of my favorites, because of its black background, the work stand out. It shows the artists versatility. He did not even need to draw a security guard uniform; the facial expression itself expresses well what reminds us of security guards. This is a funny work.
Peppermint Head , 75 x 112 cm, Acrylic Print, Aluminum Dibond, 2013
“Peppermint Head” shows good balance. I like the colors on this one.
New York by Night, 120 x 180 cm, Acrylic Print, Alumnimu Dibond 2014
Among the works, “New York by Night”, shows a lot of irony. This is the closest the artist can get to a social commentary. To present New York using a slum house- that is very creative.
Listen To Me, 50 x 75 cm, Acrylic Print, Aluminum Dibond 2013
“Listen to Me”, is a lonely work. The moon, the swirls on his face all add up to the loneliness. This work shows depth, it is expresses something personal and universal at the same time.
