Art Review: The Drawings of Joebert Jimenez

Portrait painting is a genre in painting, where the intent is to depict the visual appearance of the subject. The term is usually applied to the depiction of human subjects. In addition to painting, portraits can also be made in other media such as etching, lithography, photography, video and digital media.

Historically, portrait paintings have primarily memorialized the rich and powerful. Over time, however, it became more common for middle-class patrons to commission portraits of their families and colleagues. Today, portrait paintings are still commissioned by governments, corporations, groups, clubs, and individuals.

In Cebu, one of the city’s great secrets is the talented portrait artist Joebert Jimenez.

Joebert Jimenez is a skilled young man that grew up learning how to draw charcoal drawing on his own without any formal training. His talent is one fine testament to hard work and self- determination.

However aside from his hard work and self- determination, one of his clear strengths is truly his patience. It is his patience that allows him to make every meticulous portrait finished. It his patience that allows him to give importance to every tiny detail that makes his works realistic.

The guy is also just not limited to one medium as he also delves in to tattoo art. However, it is his really his charcoal portraits that his mastery of his skills are shown.

Joeberto Jimenez is another unique individual in the art scene. His story is one prime example of where hard work can carry you. So let us all go out and support the guy.
