Art Review: EcoArt Exhibit 2014

Published

on

Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities (SEED4Com) organized an EcoArt Exhibit 2014 last September 26-28, 2014 along Paseo Ciudad, Ayala Center – Cebu. The EcoArt Exhibit 2014 was part of the contribution to the World Cleanup Movement as Cebu will be hosting the 2nd LDI Asia Regional Conference this November.

The plan for the EcoArt Exhibit is to move it to other public spaces and schools for the rest of the year, thus reaching out to more people to raise awareness and the advocacy to respond to the pressing issues on our environment and climate change. The idea of bringing art together with information about our environmental responsibility and sustainability will guide us through a more Earth friendly lifestyle and will serve as a continuous reminder of what the students, artists and the community can learn from each other.

The exhibit consisted of artworks from Arman Metoda, Bart Bombs, Joeberto Jimenez and Pikoy Famador.

2nd photo Indegenous Man Drummer

The work of Arman Metoda was entitled, “Indegenous Man Drummer”. It was made of clay and carabao bones. The work is very unique as it used an unusual material which is the carabao bones. The artist , Arman Metoda shows us that creativity has no limits. That in the artist’s hands, trash can be made beautiful.

The second artist to be included is Bart Bombs. His work is entitled, “Unknown Soldiers”, and is made up of oil and recycled plywood cut out. The works show us the signature style of Bart Bombs. Again, the works are made from simple materials but because of the creativity it is no longer simple and is now something of value.

4th photo The Aging of Mother Nature

Joeberto Jimenez’ work is entitled, “The Aging of Mother Nature” and is done in charcoal pencil. This work is a charcoal drawing that stands out in the exhibit. This is because it is very complex drawing. It shows the patience and determination of the artist to draw an old woman in charcoal.

Lastly, the work of Pikoy Famador was the star of the show as children flocked around the kid friendly sculpture. Just look at the pictures, I think every child and child at heart would truly appreciate the creativity and the cuteness of the work.

Overall, it is always a refreshing event to witness artist contribute artworks for a cause, and a good cause like protecting the environment is something we all can relate to.

So congratulations to the event organizers and the artist. I hope such exhibits like this continue to be organized and more artists will join next time.
