Approaching Cyclone Now Tropical Storm, Internationally Codenamed ‘Peipah’
The reported cyclone approaching the Philippines has intensified into a tropical storm Saturday morning according to Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
GMA News Online reported that JMA, in its 9 a.m. update, indicated that the tropical storm, internationally codenamed Peipah, may head toward Mindanao. It added that the storm is moving west at 20 kph.
Nathanel “Mang Tani’ Cruz, GMA News’ resident meteorologist, earlier said the cyclone could enter the PAR by Sunday. He added that after it entered the PAR, it will be locally named “Domeng.”
In the same report, Cruz also said the cyclone could make landfall over Eastern Visayas or Caraga region in Mindanao.
However, PAGASA’s Chris Perez told radio dzBB that the cyclone’s effects may not be felt until at least Tuesday, report said.
