Apple to Reveal ‘iOS in the Car’ Integration Next Week
According to Financial Times report, Apple is set to unveil ‘iOS in the Car’ next week at the Geneva Motor Show with Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo on board.
Apple’s iOS in the car system will integrate with the in-dash displays and controls of supported vehicles, opening access to features such as Siri, iMessage, iTunes and Maps.
It wasn’t detailed which vehicles from the auto makers will feature iOS in the Car, but Financial Times says they will show it live at the show.
A number of other manufacturers are expected to incorporate iOS in the Car in 2014 although this is yet to be confirmed.
Previously leaked images show that you can’t multi-task while using the software – whatever you have displayed on your iPhone will display on the infotainment system – and it’s locked to certain Apple apps.
There’s also no keyboard, so all typing will have to be done through Siri voice commands.
“Having something in the automobile is very important,” Tim Cook, Apple CEO, said on the company’s Q3 2013 earnings call. “It’s something people want”, he added.
