AMD Launches Frame Generation Tech DX11, DX12 Games in First Driver Release in 2024
AMD introduced a frame-generating technology called Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) for all users in its first official driver release for 2024.
The latest development comes as HYPR-RX, embedded in the drivers, now enables gamers to enhance frame generation for ‘any’ DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 games, marking a shift from the previous preview status of the AFMF technology.
The release promises a substantial increase in Frames Per Second (FPS) for users with compatible hardware, particularly the Radeon RX 7600 XT GPU, with estimates suggesting up to a 97 percent average performance increase across select titles at 1080p resolution with AFMF enabled, rising to an impressive 103 percent at 1440p resolution.
These enhancements work in conjunction with AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2) at Quality Mode.
AFMF technology is available for Radeon RX 7000/RX 6000 desktop and mobile GPUs, as well as Radeon 700M integrated graphics based on RDNA3 architecture.
As of writing, there is no mention of support for other hardware.
AMD recommends users enable Anti-Lag technology as AFMF will introduce latency.
Moreover, AMD said that AFMF currently operates only in full-screen mode with V-Sync disabled.
In addition to AFMF, AMD also introduced Video Upscaling, aimed at improving the quality of videos in real time.
This technology, supporting most DirectX 11 apps, is AMD’s answer to NVIDIA’s RTX Video Upscaling. (GFB)
