‘Amang’ Heading Towards Eastern Samar

Manila (PNA) — Tropical Storm “Amang ” has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Thursday morning and is forecast to be 640 km east of Guian, Eastern Samar on Friday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its Severe Weather Bulletin, PAGASA said “Amang” will be located 640 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar Friday morning.

The storm is forecast to move west northwest at 19 kilometers per hour and is projected to be 380 km east of Legaspi by Saturday morning and 340 km east of Infanta, Quezon by Sunday morning.

As of 4:00 a.m. Thursday, “Amang” was located at 950 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (11.4°N, 134.4°E), with maximum sustained winds of up to 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

“Amang” will have an estimated rainfall amount from 7.5 – 20 mm per hour (heavy – intense) within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.

With the movement of the storm, the Visayas and Mindanao regions are forecast to have partly cloudy skies with isolated to moderate rains, along with possibility of thunderstorms.

“Caraga and Eastern Visayas will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains with possible occurrence of thunderstorms… The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains with possible occurrence of thunderstorms,” PAGASA said.

Moreover, the state-run weather bureau said the Northeast Monsoon or “Hangin Amihan” will affect Luzon, bringing in rains to the region.

“Cagayan Valley and Cordillera will have cloudy skies with light rains,” it said.

Also, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies, along with isolated light rains.

Meanwhile, PAGASA has warned the public against traveling over the Northern and Central Luzon seaboards and the forecast track area of Amang, the Eastern Seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas.

“Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the Eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon and of Visayas,” it said. (PNA) FPV/JLD/JSD
