AMA University Granted Autonomous Status by CHED
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has granted autonomous status to AMA University, paving the way for the country’s pioneer in IT education to offer more innovative courses and programs.
Being autonomous is a privilege granted by CHED to universities and colleges according to their three elements of quality which include “1) the alignment and consistency of the learning environment with the institution’s vision, mission, and goals; 2) demonstration of exceptional learning and service outcomes; and 3) the development of culture and quality.”
This gives schools the freedom to offer new courses that are highly aligned with its expertise. An institution will only need to duly inform CHED of these offerings and will no longer be required to seek approvals from the governing body.
With this development, AMA University is looking to pioneer more IT-based courses designed to address the needs of the ever-changing technology and online landscape here and abroad.
Before becoming an autonomous institution, AMA pioneered a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Degree Program. It’s the first course of its kind in the country with a curriculum that addresses the different issues affecting data, software, component connections, cyber threats, and the corresponding technology available.
With the autonomous status, AMA University aims to continue producing specialized information technology experts equipped to create solutions for evolving cybersecurity issues through new courses to be offered in the coming semesters.
“We have always aimed to be at the forefront of industry trends and developments,” said Dr. Amable V. Aguiluz V, Founder and Chairman of AMA Education System, and considered Father of IT Education in the Philippines.
“We will launch new courses and produce highly competent IT professionals to bridge the gaps in information technology expertise in the country and even abroad.”
