AMA Education System ‘Recovers’ for Students Productivity Lost Due to Traffic, Torrential Rains

The new normal of worsening traffic and extreme rainfall has taken a toll on the productivity not only of the country’s workforce but of the student population as well. To ease the burden on workers, the Philippine government passed the Work from Home Law in 2018. For students, however, the travails of the daily commute remain unaddressed for the most part.

Not so for students of AMA Education System—starting with their senior high school students, AMA’s Blended Learning approach gives back to students the valuable time they would have lost while stuck in traffic or caught in torrential rain.

Blended learning combines face-to-face classes and online instruction, with enough time left for students to enjoy family life and other activities. Students are given login credentials to AMA’s blended learning platform so they could enter the site and study online anytime, anywhere.

Chief among the benefits of blended learning is the ability to have a full learning experience despite the challenges brought by the environment. With this method, students need only to attend a classes three days a week and study online on the other two days. The curriculum is designed to transition from the classroom to online study ensuring continuity and effectivity.

On the days that they study online and offsite, students have access to learning material such as e-books and recorded lectures. This gives them the opportunity to return and review the course material at their own time to develop a better understanding of the subject matter. They need not rush into the next subject or resort to simply memorizing concepts due to time constraints or limitations in schedule.

Students in the Blended Learning program will also have enough time left for family life and other activities outside of school–helping them develop time management skills, keeping priorities, and achieving study-life balance.

Through the years, AMA has produced numerous graduates who have reaped the benefits of blended education, armed with the skill sets and behaviors called for in the modern workplace. Since the 1990s, AMA has enhanced its e-learning capacity by partnering with online education providers such Smartforce and Intralearn.

“The demands of the changing environment motivates us to continuously innovate our systems to accommodate the different ways students learn,” says Dr. Amable R. Aguiluz V, Founder and Chairman of AMA Education System and considered as the Father of IT Education in the Philippines.

“Blended learning has proven to be a viable and relevant learning approach, helping our students and their teachers maximize their time and effort learning and teaching despite the challenges posed by the environment.”
