Alicia Trail Run 2018 to Showcase New Tourism Site

Trail runners and cross country mountain bikers are never choosy about their race tracks. But if they hit the trails of one of Bohol’s most spectacular views of rolling hills and sea of clouds, it should help showcase the new tourism site, said Alicia Mayor Marnilou Ayuban as she bared this year’s Foundation Anniversary highlights.

The Alicia Panoramic Park (TAPP) at Cambaol Alicia, Bohol, some 106 kilometers from Tagbilaran, opens its trails to endurance trail runners on February 10, Saturday, where runners are expected to pound the trails obscured by fog in a race threading through a sea of clouds.

The hundreds of hectares of rolling hills at TAPP is among Bohol’s new campsites  as the campers are treated with scenes like the sea of clouds in Mount Pulag; this entails a short hike.

Already an established mountain bike park and home to the annual Kinatkatay sa Binabaje mountain bike races, TAPP also has an annual dirt bike challenge, which makes the trail run race the third endurance test.

Now picked as a race course for the TAPP Trail Run 2018, the park’s cattle herder’s trails become part of the 21-km and 5-km trail runs that wind around the hills from The Farm and back, said Alicia Information and Tourism Officer Godelia Lumugdang.

The trail is basically single track, follows the ridges of TAPP, and offers gradual to 45 degree ascents, loamy sand packed earth, natural obstacles like tree roots and rocks, and some steep descents but generally uphill and downhill single tracks, Lumugdang said.

Runners for the 21K challenge assemble at the starting line on Saturday at 5:00 AM and await for instructions prior to the gun start at 5:30.

Cut-off time is seven hours so runners must be in before 12:30 past noon of the same day.

For the 5K participants, assembly time is 5:30 am while the gun start is set at 6:00 am.

Runners are expected to be checking back after 2 hours and 30 minutes, or roughly at 8:30 a.m.

Registration amount for the 21K is P800, while the 5K trail run registration is P400.

Registration includes race kit with a race number, event shirts for both categories, finishers medals, finisher’s certificates, and a post-race meal.

Deadline for registration is on January 26, 2018. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
