Alcantara Mayor Died of Heart Attack
Alcantara town Mayor Alfredo Fredo Cañete died of a cardiac arrest early Wednesday morning while being confined at South General Hospital in the City of Naga, Cebu. He was 69.
Cañete left behind his wife Concita and their four children.
Following the town mayor’s death, the flag at the municipal hall and other public offices of the town were on a half mast.
Sources said the remains of Cañete will either be brought to his other house in B. Rodriguez or in St. Peter Funeral Homes-Imus in the next two to three days before this will be transferred to his Alcantara for public viewing.
As of this posting, no details yet as to where Cañete will be interred.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Beatriz Caburnay will succeed Cañete.
Cañete, who served as a municipal councilor for three straight terms, defeated then mayor Prudencio Barino Jr. in last year’s election.
