Alayon Senior Member to ‘Jump Ship’

It seems that the Alayon Party in Talisay City is losing its members. This after one of its senior members, former City Councilor Semy Cabuenas, is thinking of jumping to the Liberal Party (LP).

“Posible mobiya ko. Kay kung kinsa’y makatabang sa akong anak, adto ko,” said Cabuenas referring to his daughter, Lagtang barangay councilwoman Khea Bacaltos.

Bacaltos had earlier moved to LP following an alleged conflict with Lagtang barangay chief Dindin Bas. Bacaltos said she had to seek alliance with Talisay Mayor Johnny V. Delos Reyes of LP for her to get aid from the city as Bas allegedly stripped her of all her committees, thereby denying her access to the barangay’s resources.

Bacaltos said she took the initiative to seek Delos Reyes’ help despite the fact that she was allied with Alayon as it was the only way she could function as a public servant.

Last week Bacaltos was able to bring in 100 sacks of cement from the city government, which she will use for the completion of Lagtang gymnasium.

Bacaltos admitted that one reason she left her father’s party was the result of last barangay elections, wherein Cabuenas was defeated by Bas.

The councilwoman said if only her father got the whole support of the party, she would have won instead of just being defeated by a margin of about 100 votes.

Alayon threw its support to Bas and also to Cabuenas last October polls.

Cabuenas also admitted he was disheartened by his own party’s decision to support two rival candidates. Cabuenas is among those said who will run as councilor under Delos Reyes’s ticket in 2016, but the former city councilor said it is still too early to decide on it. He, however, said that with the turn of events in his own party, it is likely that he will consider it.

It was late last year when City Councilor Dennis Basillote left Alayon Party, which he blamed has caused his son’s defeat in the last barangay election, reportedly because the said political party had also given its support to the rival candidate.
