Alayon Defeats LP Bet in ABC Prexy Election
Barangay Bulacao chief Raul Cabañero of Alayon defeated Liberal Party’s Linao barangay captain Fe Ylanan by 12-10 in Monday’s Association of Barangay Councils election for president in Talisay City.
Cabañero, a senior member of Alayon, said he was grateful for the support of their party’s bigwig former first district representative Eduardo Gullas and incumbent first district Congressman Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas for helping him secure the post.
Cabañero will replace Charles Basillote, an outgoing ABC president and a former Alayon member. Basillote and his father City Councilor Dennis Basillote had recently jumped to LP following his younger brother’s defeat in the last barangay election. The Basillotes blamed the Gullases for not supporting Rex Basillote’s barangay chief candidacy and instead threw its allegiance to his rival who defeated him.
Meanwhile, although LP was confident it would get 17 out of the 22 votes (each of the city’s barangay captains is entitled to a single vote) yet they were still short of the needed number to win, Ylanan said she accepted defeat.
“I accept the result of the election. It was a clean election,” she said.
