Alayon Dads keep Major Committees

Despite being the opposition bloc, the Alayon councilors were still able to keep the major committees in the Talisay City Council.

The 5th Talisay City Sangguniang Panglungsod, in its first regular session earlier Friday, approved the 21 committee chairmanships, of which majority went to the opposition bloc while a few to the three administration legislators.

As rumored, Alayon City Councilor Choy Aznar was picked as the majority floor leader and the chairman of the committees on Health, Hospital Services and Sanitation, and Laws, Good governance and City Properties.  Former mayor and now City Councilor Socrates Fernandez , also of Alayon, is now head of the committee on Public Works and Infrastructure, and Social Services and Senior Citizen. Another Alayon members, Councilors Dennis Basillote and Edward Alesna are chairmen of committees on Housing, Urban Poor Rural Development, and Education; and Budget and Appropriation, and Public Order, respectively. For his part, Eduardo Gullas III was given the same committees he had held during his previous term; the committees on Family, Women and Children, and Games and Amusement and Sports Development.

Their partymate Doroteo Emit also chairs two committees on the Tourism, Heritage and International Affairs, and Labor, Trade and Industry while newbie councilor Antonio Bacaltos has the committees on Agriculture and Environment.

Association of Barangay Councils president Charles Basillote, also of Alayon, chairs the committee on Barangay Affairs and Cooperate and People’s Organization while SKF president Carmel Jude Burlas heads the committee on Youth Development.

Meanwhile, while he objected of the “unfair” parting of committees, minority Councilor Valeriano Ylanan accepted his first committee chairmanship. He now holds the committee on Parks and Playground while Danilo Caballero is now head of the committee on Slaughterhouse and Market.  Another minority councilor Aldin Diaz is head of the committee on Communication and Information Technology.

“I would like to inform the august body that the committee chairmanship will be subject for amendment,” Ylanan said, who insisted he wanted the committee on Infrastructure for himself while

Caballero wants the committee on Peace and Order, while Diaz also expressed his desire to hold the committee on Budget and Finance.
