Alan Peter Cayetano Elected as New Speaker of the House
The election for the new house speaker have concluded, the House of Representatives elects Taguig-Pateros Representative Alan Peter Cayetano as the new House Speaker of the 18th Congress on July 22, 2019.
Despite the confusion regarding who is gonna seat as the new Speaker of the House the result of the election favored Representative Cayetano.
266 members out of the 297 lawmakers that were present in the session voted for Cayetano while 28 others voted for Manila Representative Bienvenido Abante.
Meanwhile, two have chosen to abstain and one have a no vote.
In his speech, Cayetano said that as the newly elected House Speaker he would also focus on the concerns on poverty and other problems affecting the Filipinos aside from the war on drugs, criminality and corruption in the country. (ASC)
